LAS ROTAS
- Supermarket:
- Transportation
BEACHES:
- Las Rotas, rocky coves, diving, and terraces. IT'S IMPORTANT TO BRING WATER SHOES, AND A MASK AND SNORKEL FOR DIVING. The water in Las Rotas is always spectacular; I personally prefer it to the sandy areas, although it depends on your taste. There are many good spots to settle down and swim, for example, to the right of the Helios restaurant and to the right of the Pegolí restaurant. At the end of Las Rotas, there's a lovely hike to Cova Tallada, some beautiful caves on the cape where you can swim or snorkel. You can get there on foot, by kayak, etc., by parking at the roundabout in front of the CaNano restaurant at the end of the Las Rotas road.
- Marineta Casiana, the sandy beach between Las Rotas and the port, is quiet and within walking distance from the house.
- Sandy beaches, with 20 km of beaches, from Las Marinas to Oliva. In general, because it's so long, it's not crowded, although on weekends in August it can get crowded. I usually go to Km 5 between the Playa Grande and La Naranja residential areas; the area is nice, and there are beach bars and a few restaurants where you can eat.
- There are also sandy beaches in Jávea (Arenal and some coves like Granadella and Portixol). The beaches in Jávea are always more crowded during high season because there are far fewer kilometers of sandy beach. If it's off-season, I recommend going to Ambolo, Portixol, or Granadella because they are very beautiful. There are also some interesting viewpoints on the way to these coves from Jávea, which are signposted.
In Jávea, there are also many rocky beach areas, such as the entire stretch from the port to the sand, or Cala Blanca. As in Las Rotas, water shoes are essential. You can take advantage of the opportunity to go to La Siesta or Montgo for a drink.
OTHER:
- Rent a boat for the day. You have to cross the Bay of Jávea to anchor, go to Portixol and the coves. Barcas Pérez 652852613, SEA LA VIE (Philippe 664295999). GREAT PLAN! There are some very pretty coves to anchor in: Cala Blanca, Potixol, Ambolo, etc. They didn't require it before, but now they always ask for the PER (Permanent License), or at least the little license (I think with this one you can only anchor up to 7m). You have to have the license; I've been stopped by the Civil Guard a few times.
It's well worth it because the coastline to Calpe is truly beautiful, with cliffs, coves, and Balearic-style islets, and amazing water.
In summer, there are quite a few boats on weekends, but in general, the anchoring is good, and they've also put up plenty of buoys.
- Go to Denia Castle, a good excursion for the afternoon or if the weather is bad.
- Go to the fish market and watch the arrival of the boats and the fish auction. It's very interesting! It's in the port. It's around 5 p.m., every day, except Sunday, I think. Then, at the fish market, you can buy something if you're up for it. Very interesting for children.
- Trekking and Hiking www.denia.net/senderismo-y-paseos
- Climb to the San Antonio lighthouse, along the Montgo de Javea road that starts from Las Rotas. There are several viewpoints with fantastic views; you have to do it. There are a couple of very nice walks in the area if you're up for it. A MUST-SEE FOR SIGHTSEEING AND GETTING YOUR FACILITIES
- Walk through Jávea. The town center is very pretty. See the market and the Gothic church in the center and wander around the streets. Then, you can take a stroll and have lunch/dinner along the harbor promenade.
- Go to the Cueva de las Calaveras, 15 minutes from Denia. A great plan for the late afternoon after the beach, or if it's raining, with children. It's not worth it for adults.
- Walk through the shopping area (Calle Marques de Campo) and the old town (Calle Loreto and surrounding areas) of Denia.
- Rent a bike and take the Gandía green route (they've converted some old train tracks into a green route, and it's a beautiful walk that takes a couple of hours. Bike rentals: 965787228, Fun&Quads, located at the beginning of the marina road, right next to the town). By the way, these guys also do kayaking tours around the broken rocks and the cape area, and it can be beautiful, but I haven't done it.
- A great cycling plan for those who are more adventurous and on cooler days is the Denia-Jávea route that goes around the Montgó. It's well signposted, and the scenery is beautiful. It's about a 2-3 hour bike ride, depending on your pace. Once you arrive in Jávea, you can take a frequent bike boat from the port to return to Denia. The trip takes about 30 minutes and is very beautiful because it goes around Cape San Antonio. For me, the plan is to do the bike route early to avoid the heat, arrive in Jávea, and swim at the beach in front of the promenade next to the port. It's pebbly and the water is great. Eat at one of the restaurants along the promenade, and take the boat back to Denia. It's a great plan; you get exercise and see the inland countryside and the entire cape.
- Go to the Jalón (Xaló) market on Saturday morning. It's a good market, a very large flea market, full of flea markets. There are also wineries in the town where you can buy local wine, olive oil, etc. The road is nice, and there are two routes.

Cosas que hacer
PLAYAS:

Denia has a huge selection of restaurants of all kinds. Here are a few that I think you might like.
I recommend ALWAYS BOOKING, as the restaurants get packed, especially in August. I'll list a few that are good (I'll underline the best ones in my opinion). Again, if you want to eat by the sea on a Sunday in August, book in advance:
- In las Rotas
- In the port
- In the town of Denia
Els Tomasets, well-prepared classic tapas in a modern tavern, it's very good, 966432560
Ca Pepa Teresa, very good tapas, 965784547
Miguel Juan, a classic tavern with very traditional tapas, the guy is a real character, 628048232
Els Cavallers, located on the parallel street, called Els Cavallers, has a very nice terrace and a slightly more modern tapas menu that's very good, worth a visit, 966422356
Pont Sec, a great place with a terrace serving tapas and traditional food, it gets very busy
La SEU, worth a visit for the food (in the tapas section downstairs) and for the fantastic renovation they've done to the building, 966424478
- Le Gourmand, Denia to Javea road by Jesús Pobre, VERY GOOD, a chalet with a super nice terrace for dinner, French cuisine 966289686
- La tasca de Jesus Pobre, VERY GOOD, a tavern serving typical dishes in the village with a nice terrace, 965756285. A great plan is to go to the RiuRau market on Sunday and have dinner here (make a reservation)
- La Setla: Spectacular restaurant in Las Marinas, currently the best value. Better for dinner. The place isn't very flashy, but the food is well worth it. 966190525 CONFIRM IF IT'S CLOSED
- Marinas (beaches):
o Jamse, simple and great for lunch if you're on the beach, 965783506 (indicated on the map), also LA CASA DEL ARROZ, O NOGUERA, FOR RICE ON THE BEACH
o Primera Línea, very good, on the marina road very close to town. They'll let you know if you call, 965788612
o Los Baños Sunshine Bar, a Formentera-style beach club, very cool, with a good atmosphere, and casual food, from breakfast to dinner. It's around km 10 of the Las Marinas highway.
or Restaurante El Chiringuito. Don't be fooled by the name, it's a very nice terrace in Las Marinas, around km 6. The food is GREAT. If you call, ask them to give you one of the tables facing the sea, fantastic for dinner! They should give you directions when you call. 965781736
or XqNo: A small, new Mexican restaurant, simple but with very good food, is on the Las Marinas highway next to Els Poblets.
or Of course, if you want to give yourself a SUPER TREAT, there's ELS POBLETS, by Quique Dacosta, 3 Michelin stars.
- Near Golf de la Sella:
or Giramondo: Decent Italian restaurant in the service area of La Sella, nice terrace, they prepare takeaway food.
or Punta de Benimaquía: Traditional restaurant with a very pleasant terrace. They have a daily menu with starters and rice, very reasonably priced and not bad at all. It's on the Jesús Pobre road before reaching the Marriott de la Sella, on the right.
- Javea: It deserves another chapter, but to mention a few (again, make a reservation!):
La Cantina de Javea: Tapas in the fishing port on a pleasant terrace for dinner and nothing else. 965792190
Cala Bandida, a very pretty place with great views and good food, quite trendy. It's next to the port.
Geographic (670030991) and Chabada (965792200), two places on the Arenal promenade, with a good atmosphere and views of the beach.
Tula: Excellent in Arenal. 966471745
BonAmb, I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard great things about it. In a different league, expensive, they just gave it a star. It's in a small hotel inland. 965084440.
Must-try things in the area: dried octopus!!! Denia prawns (the best in the world)!!! Arroz a Banda (not Valencian paella, for that you'd have to go to Gandía; in Denia, only foreigners order paella; they don't know how to make it). Cocas, a type of traditional pizza with a variety of very delicious ingredients.
In Jávea
There are great places for drinks: Montgo di Bontgo, great for a daytime drink or a nightcap, right by the sea.
La Siesta, for dinner and drinks, or a drink during the day, right by the sea. It's next to Montgo di Bontgo.
Other places to drink: La Sal, very lively for second drinks; Caragato, for first drinks; Chill, at the end of Arenal, with a great atmosphere after 2.
Cala Bandida, very cool next to the port of Jávea for aperitifs, lunch, or dinner. Ask for a terrace.
La Hacienda, a legendary nightclub on Montgo, up on the road to the lighthouse.
It's been a young crowd lately, but there are themed parties in the summer with all kinds of people. Ask.
Moraira:
It's about 30 minutes from home. El Portet is worth a visit. I prefer the port of Bassetes (very small and quiet; you can rent a catamaran) and some of the coves along that road (Cala Advocat or Cala Pinets, for example. They're spectacular, but not as crowded if you go during the week. They're marked along the road; you have to leave your car next to the road and walk down to the cove; they're rocky coves, but comfortable). The coast is spectacular, and the water is incredible. Bring water shoes and a snorkel mask. In the port of Bassetes, there's a very cool restaurant for a delicious rice dish with great views. This is a great day plan.
Altea: 30 minutes from Denia.
El Cranc Restaurant: Very good on the beach for Valencian food.
The town center is very pretty for a stroll and dinner.

Restaurantes
